Bardolino
Fratelli Bolla S.P.A.
This is a very smooth red. I had it with veal picatta in a fine Italian restaurant. Sono Italiano in spiritus! Verimente sono! Io parlo Italiano molto male ... vorrai un altro birra. Subito! Okay, at least I can still fake it. This is a dry Italian red with a fresh fruity bouquet and a pleasant finish. It is a good beginners red. Serve at room temp ( 60º ). Vintage: 1995

L'Orval Cabernet Sauvignon
France
I am beginning to think that this wine maker shouldn't be called L'Orval but rather L'Cheapo. This wine is way, way to harsh and young to drink even 3 years after it's vintage. No one wants to age a cheap wine, it is meant to be enjoyed soon after purchase. Avoid this one. Serve at room temp ( 60º ). Vintage: 1995

Johannesburg Riesling
Ernest & Julio Gallo
I have never been disappointed in this sweet white wine. Irrespective of brand and vintage, this wine is a winner. If you like white wine that isn't too dry and isn't too sweet, this is a good choice. Excellent for those new to wine or those who think it is too dry and harsh. Serve cool ( 50º ). Vintage: 1995

Decoy Napa Valley Semillion 1993
Decoy Vineyards
This wine is a pleasant surprise. It has the dry qualities of a good Sauvignon Blanc with a bit more floral nose. Goes great with pasta and fish. It is medium bodied and quite tasty. Serve cool ( 50º ). Vintage: 1993

Sauvignon Blanc
Woodbridge Vineyards
If you enjoy crisp, dry white wine give this kind a try. Once again, it doesn't seem to matter what vineyard or vintage you choose -- as you can see, I'm not what they call a "cork dork". I do not pretend to know certain worthless facts about a wine. I know what I like, and this style of wine with it's subtle herbal quality is great with pastas. It is medium bodied and quite tasty. Serve cool ( 50º ). Vintage: 1994

Fumé Blanc
Sutter-Home
This is much like the above Sauvignon Blanc. Both wines use the same grape to produce their dry wines. The oak barrel aging that some wineries use comes through well. Dry finish. Dry beginning. Dry everything. I think this is my new favorite wine. Good with lighter pastas and grilled foods, such as chicken, fish and pork. Serve cold ( 40º ). Vintage: 1995

White Zinfandel
Beringer Vineyards
My fianceé loves this wine. Very sweet, medium bodied with a powerful fruity bouquet. Everyone I know loves this wine. I find it a tad too sweet, but it is nonetheless an excellent bottle to keep on hand. When you aren't sure what someone will like when it comes to wine ... serve this. Serve cold ( 40º ). Vintage: 1996

L'Orval Merlot
France
Let me make one thing perfectly clear: this wine is without question the most adequate I've ever tasted. In fact, I cannot remember a wine in all of history that ever was more adequate. Fruit bouquet with medium body. Soft and mellow with a rather dry finish.

White Grenache
Ernest & Julio Gallo
If you find White Zinfandel too sweet, try this. A little more body and a touch less sweetness with a similarly powerful, fruity bouquet. Serve cold ( 40º ). Vintage: 1995

Valpolicella
Fratelli Bolla S.P.A.
I'm getting hooked on Bolla. These guys (no offense to the feminists out there, "fratelli" is Italian for "brothers") really know how to make a good red wine. Medium body, floral nose, and a smooth finish. Great with pastas and meats. Serve at room temp ( 60º ). Vintage: 1995

Cella Sangiovese
Fratelli Cella
Never overpowering, this Italian red is very good with pastas, roasted red meats, salmon, and hard cheeses (esp. Gouda). No lie, this wine smells like violets. Serve at room temp ( 60º ). Vintage: 1995

White Zinfandel
Corbet Canyon Vinyards
A very smooth, sweet and crisp blush which comes in a cool bottle which is square on top and round at the bottom. Or is it the other way 'round? Either way a very nice wine for those who like it sweet. Serve cold ( 40º )..
Vintage: 1997
White Zinfandel
M.G. Vallejo Winery
For those who like the fruity character of White Zinfandel, but the dry character of a white, try this. Very dry. If you're a Zin fan, its better than a kick in the schnoz but not what you'd expect from a Zinfandel. Serve cold ( 40º )..
Vintage: 1995
