Punch Robusto
Honduras

This one is powerful. Very strong from start to finish. Don't smoke in a small, confined area unless you're fond of smelling like a burning trash heap.

Joya de Nicaragua Corona
(pronounced hoy-ah)
Nicaragua

Rather non-descript with a papery finish. Mild and smooth with no bitter aftertaste.
Rating:

Punch Double Corona
Honduras

A very good smoke. The dark wrapper gives it a distinctive maduro-esque taste and aroma. Mild and smooth.

Danneman Espada Brazil
Brazil

A German company. The tobacco comes from Brazil. Comes in a sealed black cellophane sleeve. The head has been pre-cut which may contribute to the loose draw and faster burn. Gets hot and harsh at the end, too. Still, while it lasted it was mild and aromatic.
Rating:

Montesino Cesar No. 1
Dom. Republic

Mild aroma with a spicy taste. An even draw makes this a very nice smoke. Finished well.
Rating:

Las Cabrillas DeSoto Maduro
Honduras

Don't waste your time. Very poorly constructed. A loose draw so it burned fast and was strong and hot. It burned very unevenly and the ash made a flaky mess.
Rating:

Return to Cigar Index

Hoya de Nicaragua No. 6
(pronounced oh-ha)
Nicaragua

Not to be confused with the Joya de Nicaragua rated earlier. An even draw with an unusual nutty aroma and taste. Smooth and mild. A pretty good smoke.
Rating:

Montesino No. 2
Dom. Republic

An even draw and mild taste and aroma make this a very pleasurable smoke.
Rating:

Camacho Cazadore
Honduras

This cigar has a very straightforward tobacco taste and a mild aroma. The draw is firm, so it smokes very evenly and slowly.
Rating:

Santa Clara No. VI
Mexico

This cigar is poorly constructed. The overall smoke is not bad, but the lasting impression is made by the very strong and bitter finish, a result of the loose draw. The ash had a tendency of flaking and making a mess as well.
Rating:

Casa de Nicaragua Toro
Nicaragua

The taste can only be described as earthy. The aroma is nice but the finish is disappointing. A tight draw which makes you fight to keep it burning.
Rating:

Punch After Dinner
Honduras

A really nice cigar. Smooth and mild with a toasty bouquet.
Rating:

Punch Pyramids
Honduras

It doesn't look good. Appears poorly constructed, thrown together like some Frankenstein stogie. I was very surprised, however. Very fresh with an even draw and a mild taste and toasty aroma. Well worth the couple of skins I paid.

Excellent smoke. Mild and smooth. Very well constructed. The draw is even but not too firm.

Very nice. Full bodied, but smooth and aromatic. Well made, as you would expect. An even draw makes this a good pick.

A nice taste and mild aroma, but the tight draw spoils it a bit.

Ramon Allones A

A nice smoke. A somewhat loose draw made it more stout at the finish. Went well, as I recall with a pitcher of beer, NCAA hoops on the tube, and a bourbon and ginger for afters.

Onyx 646

Started out rough but got only slightly better. Never seemed to lose the sharp taste, though. Not for the faint of heart.

Casa Blanca Deluxe Maduro

I really like this cigar. Smooth and creamy as one might expect from a maduro wrapper. Good smoking from start to finish.
Rating:

Canonero No. 4

A loose draw made it burn fast and a little hot at the end. The taste and aroma are mild but the drawback was the messy ash which seemed to flake off everywhere.

I was impressed by this little robusto. A nice mild aroma and taste.

These had been marked down from over 7-dollars so I had to try. A wonderful smoke. Smooth and mild from start to finish with an even draw and rich, creamy aroma. Went back and got five more.

A rather non-descript smoke. No single characteristic stands out. Mild. Smooth. Not as good as the band looks but not a stinky turd, either.

My first Davidoff. A gift for my birthday from Ethan. The most expensive cigar I have ever combusted and it lived up to my expectations. Well crafted in the torpedo shape. It oozes quality and distinction. Smooth and aromatic.

If ever a cigar resembled a turd, this one is it. Nasty, nasty, and more nasty. Loose draw and a taste like the Marlboro man's BVDs. Thank God it plugged before I could finish. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Lit this one up in my favorite cigar shop -- JR Tobacco in Statesville, NC (a shameless plug, I admit) -- and sat in a 1,500 dollar smoking chair and enjoyed it immensely. The aroma is wonderful. An even draw and burn makes this a really good smoke.

Cohiba Robusto
Dom. Rep.

This was my annual expensive cigar gift to my brother -- and I bought one for myself also, of course. Very strong cigar ... powerful. Most powerful cigars have one particular note, such as an earthy or leathery taste which lessens the overall flavor. This cigar's flavors blended very well for an enjoyable, if not over-priced smoke.

A rare find. I grabbed this one up over a year and a half ago for $14. I had been saving it for a special occasion and my Brother Ethan's wedding seemed the perfect time. The draw is perfect. The skin has a wonderful oily feeling. The burn was even and perfect. My humidor must be working! The aroma is medium bodied, and the finish is smooth as silk. A truly excellent cigar.
